The Crossing has a vision-driven budget. Every year, ministry teams set out what they hope to accomplish, build a proposed budget, and submit that to our Finance Team, which includes elders from the congregation. This is where a detailed review happens. Adjustments are made, and costs are verified. The total budget is aligned with projections for giving in the coming year. The Finance Team then recommends a final draft budget to the entire elder board.
Once finalized by the board, the Finance Department's job throughout the year is to administrate the budget. We employ internal financial controls: separation of incoming and outgoing dollars, dual processing of offering, and a number of check-signing rules. The Finance Team meets periodically throughout the year to monitor the budget’s progress. Ideally, there are no shortfalls between income and expenses for a given year, but if there are, they are covered by savings.
After the fiscal year is complete, the audit firm Capin Crouse performs an in-depth, independent audit. They generate a report at the end of the year, which is reviewed by the Finance Department and Finance Team.
